SBI Magnum mid cap fund aims to provide long term capital appreciation and also manages some liquidity by investing in a diversified portfolio of mid cap stocks.

SBI Magnum MidCap Fund - Direct Plan - Growth Review

Launched on March 2005 SBI Magnum mid cap has a roller coaster of a ride as a fund just before 2008 the whole team behind the fund moved out and since then they have rebuilt the team and processes which has resulted in the fund getting back some of its glory. Led by Sohin Andani SBI Mid cap fund has a bottoms up approach to picking up stocks and invests 60-65% percent of the funds in diversified mid cap stocks. The fund also makes small investments in small cap funds to generate additional alpha and some investments in large cap which helps to maintain liquidity. From a laggard and One star rating in 2010-2011 the fund has risen to a 4 star fund. In last 5 years the fund has outperformed market by 7 percentage points. The fund manager takes 3-5 year time horizon on stocks they invest in hence they do not worry about short term volatility and movements.So prospective investors should have a long term horizon if they want to get best value from their investments.The fund is a typical growth fund and looks for growth, asset light companies with superior management across sectors.The fund quarterly average assets under management (AUM) was Rs 3583 crore as of March,2017 It is managed by Ms Sohani Andani who has been a star fund manager with SBI Mutual fund for more than 10 years.
